RelaDuo is an iPhone app by Jeroen Visser for check-ins, questions and agreements between partners, with optional phone-free time using Apple's Screen Time. This page explains what stays on your phone, what you share with your partner, and what any server can see.
Information you add
RelaDuo stores the names and optional photos you choose, your check-ins, answers, reactions, agreements, preferences and reminders. A photo can come from an image you pick or a contact you choose in Apple's picker. RelaDuo does not read your contacts list.
Unsent answers, drafts and private notes stay on the iPhone where you wrote them. A submitted answer becomes part of your shared space, but the app only shows both answers once you have both answered.
Where it is stored and shared
Solo and one-phone use: everything stays on that iPhone.
Two phones: your shared space is synced with the one partner you invited. Both of you can see shared check-ins, submitted answers and reactions, agreements, and the session and daily-plan records described below.
Today: Apple iCloud
Current beta versions sync through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit private sharing). The data lives in the iCloud account of the person who created the space and is shared with the invited partner. Apple's own privacy policy applies to iCloud.
Coming next: end-to-end encrypted sync
An upcoming version moves two-phone sync to RelaDuo's own service, so it also works for partners on Android through the web. It's built so that nobody but the two of you can read your space, including us:
- Your phone encrypts everything before it's sent (AES-256-GCM). The key is made on your phone and only passed to your partner inside the invite link.
- The part of the invite link that holds the key (after the
#) is never sent to any server, including this website. - The data is stored with Supabase in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany).
| The server can see | The server never sees |
|---|---|
| A random account id per phone (no email or name needed), which two accounts share a space, scrambled item ids, their sizes and times, and a push token so your phone can be told to update | Names, photos, answers, notes, reactions, agreements, ratings, session titles, what kind of item something is, and the encryption key |
When you create a space you get a one-time recovery code. If you lose your phone, your partner can invite you again, or you can use the code. If both phones and the code are lost, the data can't be recovered, by you or by us.
Screen Time information
With your permission, RelaDuo uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks on your own iPhone to pause the apps and websites you select. Your selections and usage reports stay on that iPhone. They are not synced and your partner can't see them.
Shared phone-time records can include invitations and acceptances, when a session starts and ends, recurring sessions, requests for extra time and the answers to them, and whether restrictions were applied or Screen Time permission was lost. A request for an essential-app exception can include your own description, how many items are selected, and a scrambled fingerprint of the selection.
You can always leave a session, turn off your own daily balance, or revoke Screen Time permission in iPhone Settings. RelaDuo can't stop you.
Notifications
If you turn notifications on, RelaDuo uses iOS notifications for reminders and partner activity. Alerts are written on your phone from your own data, so their text doesn't pass through any server. The sync service only sends a silent "something changed" signal to your partner's phone.
Exports
You can export your journal and choose where to save or share the file. The standard export leaves out private notes and unfinished answers. Files you save outside RelaDuo are controlled by wherever you put them.

Your choices and deletion
- Edit your profile and preferences in Settings at any time.
- Settings → Data & privacy → Reset this iPhone removes RelaDuo's data from that iPhone. It doesn't remove your partner's copy, device backups or files you exported.
- With iCloud sync, you can stop sharing through the app and Apple's controls.
- With the new sync, Leave our space removes you, and the person who created the space can delete it with everything in it. When the last person leaves, the space is deleted.
RelaDuo is made in the Netherlands, and you have the rights given by the EU's GDPR, including access and deletion. For any question about your data, email us.
